My weekend and week will be busy. My husband leaves tonight for Scotland until Thursday evening.
It has been a long time since I've had to single parent. The last time I had to for a week was probably when Son 4 was an infant. And I think the other times since have just been for an overnight and that's been a couple of years ago. So this week could be... interesting.
I'm getting my grocery list ready, and will head out as soon as the husband gets back from getting his hair cut. Then we'll do lunch, and probably just hang out while he gets ready to leave. He leaves to go to the airport about 3:30, then the boys and I will head to 5:00 Mass at our church and dinner at my parents' church which is right around the corner from our church. We have to go to the school sometime and pick up Matt's Math book. He forgot it. I think we may try to finish up homework tonight after we get home and get baths.
Since we're going to Mass tonight, we'll be able to stay home tomorrow morning (and I won't have to get everyone up, dressed, and out the door for church), and then go to lunch with my Mom, brother and aunt (a weekly tradition). Then we'll have the afternoon to play and study for any upcoming tests this week (yes, we study in advance -- or we try). Son 2 has at least 2 tests this week...I think actually 3.
I will probably be online more than usual this week - but it will be after everything is done at home. I don't sleep well when my hubby is gone and I plan to do some power cleaning while the boys sleep in hopes to wear myself out. I'm also hoping to do some more writing this week and catch up on things online. Submissions for PhoenixSong open tomorrow and will remain open until Wednesday night.
If you can spare some "stay safe" thoughts and/or prayers for my hubby while he travels, I would appreciate it.
*begin selfpimpage* And the luverly aggiebell90 posted my hpgw_otp numbers challenge ficlets at PhoenixSong. */end selfpimpage* *smooches her*
And continued *huggles* for aggiebell90 and her family as they weather the hurricane. It doesn't appear to be beating on them too terribly bad. They appear to be right on the very edge.
...April, June and November.
New month. New challenges.
Son 2 continues to forget his homework. I am trying to find new ways to help him make sure he has his backpack packed completly at the end of the day.
Son 1 has decided to play in the school band. Nevermind the fact he's had never picked up an instrument (except a guitar) prior to last night. My husband is so proud, and trying to steer the young one to the alto saxophone. There is a reason behind his madness -- since he plays alto sax (he's in a community band), he wants our son to play his old sax so he can get a new one. I don't want to totally influence our son -- I want him to pick what he wants to play. My parents influenced ("don't do that!") way too many decisions I made growing up that should have been my decisions. I want my children to have a bit more "decision freedom" than I did. Anyway, our son and my husband were locked in a back bedroom playing saxophone last night.
Or rather, our son was blowing into the instrument and it was making some...interesting sounds.
Son 3 was bent out of shape that he couldn't try, too.
Son 4's preschool teacher comes for her home visit tonight. That should be interesting. This teacher was our first preschool teacher when Son 1 was in preschool. She was our first, and she'll be our last. *sniff* Preschool starts Sept. 12th.
Starting to weed through submissions at PhoenixSong. They close tonight. We have something like 40 submissions to sort through. I've gone through about 12 so far.
*Hugs* to velvethope and her mom...I hope that she's doing okay. *sporks VH's mom's company*.
*Hugs* also to a way-to-busy aggiebell90 . I hope your life slows down soon.
And in a moment of insanity, I signed up for a ficlet challenge for hpgw_otp . *waves to
jenadamson * Jen helps run this community, and I had a weak moment.
Well, I'd like to know why weekends have to go so bloody fast?!? Can someone answer me this?
We actually had a lovely weekend...Weather was beautiful, but we are now very cloudy and overcast and will be getting the remains of Hurricane Katrina as soon as she gets this far north.
Friday night, I found out that son #2 didn't update his agenda from school at all...but he remembers all his assignments, mom! Honest! Insert eyeroll here. I love this boy to death, and he's got a decent memory, but not good enough to remember all the assignments once they start piling them on. Will probably have to have his agenda checked daily by his teachers.
Saturday night, hubby and I had a date night. It was last minute, but we had a great time. We went to a winery and had dinner. I was actually lucky to get a reservation on such short notice. Details are under their "events" "cookouts". For $50.00 a couple, you get a bottle of wine (of your choice), the choice of 2 kinds of salads, steak, baked potato, veggie (it was to die for good corn on the cob this time), bread, choice of 3 desserts, coffee, tea, water. The deal with the steak is, you grill it yourself. And it's actually a good time. They have all sorts of seaonings, and the meat is excellent. We've done this now twice -- and it's been good both times. We may go with a group in October. Anyway, a good time was had by all, and we picked up some bottles of wine.
Sunday was church and lunch with my mom, and grocery shopping, and finishing homework, and packing lunches (for school this week), and....
Typical weekend.
Today it's back to work.
Submissions are now open at PhoenixSong.net. See the Nest section for details.
And by request, I'm posting a link to a community for HBP hbp_ficafest . This is ran by a couple people on my flist. *waves to
