Tomorrow, the boys start school.

Ben will start all day Kindergarten.

Eight years ago this week, we started with our current sitter.

Today, was our last full-time day with her.

Next week will be the first time I've not had a day care bill in 13 years.

Next week, I start saving for parochial High School.  (Josh starts in 2 yrs.)

Bookbags are packed. Lunch money is in the school accounts (everyone's buying tomorrow), everyone knows their PIN numbers for lunch. Bus Passes are in everyone's bookbag, and the safety patrol hats are attached to Josh and Matt's bookbags (they are on patrol this week and next). Nick and Ben's snacks are packed, and water bottles are in the freezer.

Clothes are laid out, but still need to get new shoes laced.

The kids will have a hot first day - no air, and up in the mid nineties.  They may end up ending school early tomorrow due to heat.  Josh and Matt are upstairs in the school building, Ben and Nick are downstairs.

Pictures soon.

Have a great first day to everyone who starts soon, and I hope those who have started have had a great start!

*~*~*

In other news, we're not flooded, but there is loads of it happening within the state.

Work is busy, and I had to go stand up for myself (and the other 2 ladies in the group) today.  Long story, and we'll see how it all pans out before anything else is said.

I'm not looking forward to the start of Homework.  *sigh*
The boys all got fine teachers - Nicholas I was worried about - the one third grade teacher is a nightmare, and I was worried about him.  But he got the other one, so we're good.  I am hoping this is a good year.
Matt goes in two weeks for a consult for a secondary set of braces.  There is talk that Nicholas needs to start his first set.  Nicholas had to go today and have a tooth pulled.  It was interferring with the permanent teeth, and starting to abscess.  Lovely.  The tooth fairy has to come tonight.

Thinking of getting a new laptop.  Haven't decided yet, but the HD on this one is full, so I've got to move files and the like.
This is such a pointless post.
*hugs flist*

Thanks, Margaret. The kids seemed to have a good day.

Braces, *sigh* I remember the days.

Good luck getting the boys off to school this week- we love reading family updates.

Yeah, I do, too. I had a set when I was in 5-7 grade. I remember getting them on and off. Unfortunately, this will be Matt's second set. *sigh*

And I'm glad you don't mind the family posts - that seems to be the typical post in my life!

*hugs*

I don't know if I'll ever get used to the idea of kids starting school in August. How long has it been that way for you folks in the states?

A new laptop? How about one of these (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?nnmm=browse&mco=2F15A1DE&node=home/macbook/macbook) ?? You do know that as a university employee that you qualify for the educational discount? At least we sure do up here. If not, check the refurbished deals (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?nnmm=browse&mco=3929D548&node=home/specialdeals/mac) -- those change all the time. Cheaper, and they come with full warranty.

Or if you want to keep your laptop... one thing you could do is just get a new hard drive. I know that the store by us offers a service where they take your laptop, put a new hard drive into it, and put the old hard drive into an external USB enclosure and give it back to you, so you've got all your files there.

best wishes,

They changed when I was in school from starting after Labor Day to starting last week in August. I think I was in grade 4 or 5, but I'm not certain. That would be around...30-35 yrs ago.

Some schools start after Labor Day in the states, but I do think there's a majority that starts in August. Our public school system doesn't start to next week.

Thanks for the thoughts on the laptop. I've never owned an Apple, and have never used a Mac, but those are very nice looking.

I bought my last laptop as a refurb from Dell's website, and I've been quite pleased with it overall. And I will ahve to look into finding a place to possibly put a new harddrive in this one. I do like this laptop, but it's just full up (mostly of pictures).

Good to see you around, art,

Susie

If it is mostly photos then...

1- burn them off to a DVD or CD and get them off the disk
2- get yourself an external USB drive for backup.
(You DO want to have a backup of your photos, don't you?)

Check out Costco - they have the best prices around here for external USB hard drives. Lots of people at work are buying them.

Next week will be the first time I've not had a day care bill in 13 years. Yay! Four years to go here.

School starts Monday for us although it feels kind of like it started three weeks ago for Andy. He had band for three weeks from 8:00 to 4:00 everyday.

Braces bleck. So far we have gotten by with horrible baby teeth only. (and that's expensive enough) Andy's permanent teeth are looking good so far. *crosses fingers for the next three*

Glad to hear y'all haven't been flooded. I was wondering the other day when I heard about Ohio flooding on the news.

It's an odd feeling to know we won't have a daycare bill next week. Really odd.

And as for the teeth - everyone's baby teeth have been decent but Nick's. Josh's teeth are beautiful and straight and in really good shape (no cavities). Matt's have to have braces, Nick's have no enamal on the back baby teeth, and he's had several cavitites, and Ben's had one tiny cavity. I'm hoping that we'll get at least one more that won't need braces.

Thanks for thinking of us during the flooding, Will. We've been fine, but we do live off 75 - just not the part that's flooding (I believe the flooding is all north).

Blech...I go back to school next week so I know the feeling of trying to get ready! Unfortunately, I don't have the luxury of being so close to home that I can get anything I want.

I hope the flooding isn't too bad in your area- I've heard some scary reports.

And lastly, I hope you don't mind that I friend you. I would love to get to know you. Feel free to friend me back (although posts are few and far between)! :)

Thanks for stopping by! And I hope getting ready for school for you goes well.

We've not had any flooding directly in my area; it's all up north of us.

And I friended you back. :)
