I volunteered to answer fandom questions for [profile] hpgw_otp community, and here they are:

When did you discover fandom?  I found fandom thanks to an online article that directed people who wanted more Harry Potter to go to Sugarquill and (the now defunct) Gryffindortower.  The article was published right before OotP came out, so I’ve been involved since June 2003.

Have you ever written in another fandom? Nope, I didn’t even know fandom existed prior to finding the HP fandom.

Why do you write fanfic, what appeals to you about it? Fanfiction gives me an opportunity to improve my writing skills without having to set up my own scenes/characters.  JKR has put everything in place, and I’m able to hone my writing skills using her devices.

What was the first piece of fanfic you wrote? Unpublished - one that was based on another author’s work. Published - The Homecoming Series (the WIP is still unfinished in that, and I hope one day to actually finish it).  The three parts are all at PhoenixSong.

Do you ever go back and reread your old stories?  What’s your reaction? “Gah, I wrote that? How lame is that?”

What appeals to you about Harry Potter and, more specifically, Harry/Ginny?  The world of Harry Potter is just incredible – what JKR has created is just purely magical and a joy to read.  As for what appeals to me about H/G – I’m not exactly sure.  I always love the story where the Hero gets the girl, and in this case, it wasn’t the girl that a lot of people thought he’d get.  I like Ginny because she’s tough – she’s been through a lot in the stories, yet, she’s landed on her feet.  And I think that she and Harry really do connect on a level that most don’t – she can call him on his crap, and while it might tick him off, she’s the only one who can and get away with it.

What other characters/ships do you enjoy reading and writing? Remus/Tonks has become a favorite ship of mine.  I love Remus, and I have enjoyed having the opportunity to write him in a more romantic light.  I loved Sirius also, and enjoy writing him when I’m writing Mauraders fiction or pre-OotP.  I also enjoy writing Ron/Hermione and James/Lily.

What do you use for inspiration? Sometimes real life experiences with my children or husband, sometimes, just reading another story will spark something in me that gets the juices flowing, sometimes just music or my own quiet thoughts. I develop a lot of story lines during my drive to work.  I have about 25 minutes of me, my coffee, and the road where I quietly think about what’s going on with my life, my kids or what plot I can develop.

Whose work you admire? Musings, Ashwinder, Arabella/Zsenya, Jeconais, Aspen in the Sunlight.

Which stories do you adore? After the End, The New Professor, most of Ashwinder’s fictions, A Year Like None Other.

Which of your own stories are you most proud of? Gah, I’m not proud of many.  I like my Werewolf Chronicles that I’m currently writing (only Together is up at PhoenixSong; the rest are in progress), Red, which I wrote for one of your challenges, Love Takes Time, The Trunk (all at PhoenixSong).

Do you think you’ll continue writing when the series is over? I’m not sure – I do like to write post- Hogwarts stories, but I’m finding that as the series progresses, it’s harder and harder to come up with storylines that are original.  I am curious to see once JKR publishes the last book, if there will be enough leeway to come up with some original post-Hogwarts stories.

Self-Pimpage: All my stories are currently archived here at my LJ and at PhoenixSong. I've done stories for various communities, including [profile] hpgw_otp[profile] hpgw_ficafest[profile] hbp_ficafest , and [profile] kaleidoscopefur . I've also got a few things archived at the TIP and at fanfiction.net.

ETA:  LJ would not let me manually put in the lj cut.  When I did, it kept moving my closer up to right after the actual cut tag.  So I did the cut the other way, and it got rid of my formatting.  I think I corrected everything.  *kicks LJ*

Should I be offended that my old beta doesn't admire my work?

I hope not! It's just I have a terrible brain that only functions when it wants, and I don't always put in everything I want to say, because, well, I just can't get my brain to work and remember everything at once. I blame it on the amount of kids I have.

You know I love your work. *eyes VH*

*squishes you*

And let me just say that I'm am thrilled to bits that you are feeling better. You just sound so much better in your posts, and I'm just so happy that you seem better.

*hugs*

*hugs you* again.

Sorry you were funky yesterday. I hope the blue haze of funk has lifted itself and life is rosy again.

*snort*

I do hope that you are feeling better today, and that life is treating you well. I loved your George/Luna story. It was really good and very in character.

*more hugs*

This looks great -- thanks for doing it. :)

Now that I'm in a city with good public transportation (DC) I think the one thing I miss about the commute to work is the time I had to think about fic ideas. I'm consigned to the shower. ;)

Thanks for stopping by and reading.

I have four small (noisy) boys, and my quiet, thinking time is in the car. I rarely get a quiet shower as someone's screaming, "MOM!"

Have a great day!

Well now that I am "caught up" and have finished reading the HP books I thought I might dabble in a little Fan fiction. So, I thought I would start with some from some people I know. If you had to pick one of you stories for me to read first (besides Lipstick which I just read) what would your recomendation be.

Thanks
Will

Hi Will!

Thanks for stopping by and congrats on finishing the books.

I'm flattered you want to read some of my stuff. Your wife can recommend her favorites to you, since she's been my beta for always, and knows my work fairly well *waves to [personal profile] aggiebell90, but a few I'd recommend are the following:

H/G: Red (G),Flying Without a Net (G),Love Takes Time (R),The Trunk (G)

R/Hr: Flying with Ron (PG)- this was written when your wife and I were both in a writing slump and we challenged each other to a writing contest. It was loads of fun, and I picked 3 topics for her and she picked 3 for me. Then each of us picked one and wrote.

Remus/Tonks: Together (E) (I have 5 more stories in various stages of being done from this universe that aren't posted yet)

Thanks for asking and I hope you enjoy!

Julie said she would tell me her recomendation for your works too. I'll be curious to see what she recomends.

Well it looks like I've got some to choose from here.

Dear Susie's Mom,

Susie is having a little problem following directions. The request was for one to read first. Please work with Susie at home on reading and following direction.

Thanks for the recomendations.
Will

You know, that's what I get for reading the comment last night, and replying the next day (and before my second cup of coffee!)

Well...now you have some to choose from? No?

Okay...one....hmmmm....I've gotten a lot of good comments and compliments on Red (H/G). It's really short, something like 800 words -- written for a challenge.

*hugs*

Susie (*blush*)

Well done!

Thanks, hon. I'm glad you stopped by. It was fun to do, but I never seem to remember all the things I need to put into one of these.

*hugs*
