Yesterday was on of those days. You know the kind. The ones you leave the house at 7AM and basically don't grace your doorstep again until 9:30 in the evening. I was home about 10 minutes for those 14 1/2 hours.
7:00 Left for work
7:20 Dropped kids at school
7:30 Got my coffee from Panera
7:40 Work
9:00 Had to drive to a different area of the base to get a parking pass for Mike's car
9:30 Back to work.
Spent all morning on the phone working on issues with the new lab.
12:45 Took a late lunch and went to see my son in a "live" Stations of the Cross
2:00 To the new lab to check the equipment that was delivered there (and wasn't supposed to be yet, but there's no truck big enough to move it after we're moved in. *headdesk*)
3:00 Picked up older kids at school (it wasn't worth me going back to work at the base, to turn around and leave for the day)
3:15 Picked up Ben
3:30ish Ran by home to pick up a change of clothes for one kid, school books for a couple of them for homework on the road.
3:45 Dinner at Max and Ermas (they were donating proceeds to the school for our Hasboro Toy Challenge Teams - our school has four teams that made it to Nationals in San Diego, CA).
4:45 left M & E to head to Volleyball and meet up with Mike (I had picked him up a sandwich)
5:00 ish arrived at YMCA for Volleyball and to meet Mike (gave him sandwich and 2 younger children at 5:15)
5:20 - went into the Y, Matt changed clothes, and had practice. Josh helped.
5:55 - left practice to head to Mass practice - had to leave V-ball early - Josh and Matt are both serving on Good Friday.
5:57 - arrive at Mass Practice
6:00 - went to Meijers so I could kill time while they were at Mass practice
6:30 - picked the boys up from practice
6:50 - dropped Matt back at home, went to the bathroom, touched base with Mike on what Matt had to finish homework-wise
6:55 - left again to drop Josh off at Band Practice (which is next door to the church/school)
7:10 - dropped him off
7:30 - arrived at the hospital job to set up a specimen.
9:05 - left to head home
9:30 - arrived home.
We live 15-20 minutes from our school/church/YMCA/catholic highschool (where Band Practice was). Most times, it's not worth me driving home to turn around and pick someone back up.
The only way we were going to be able to support the Toy Challenge yesterday was going to Dinner that early. Since I got done early at the new lab and was able to pick the boys up, we could go.
It was quite the day.

Date: 2007-04-05 11:26 am (UTC)But we see people who are frequently on the run for their kids commitments, and they don't have four children. We just have decided that we're not going to let our family get that crazy. Friends of ours had their three in soccer, and were gone practically every night of the week for games + practise.
When my wife was younger, her and her sister (2yrs younger) were on a baseball team together. The league 'bent' the rules a bit to make sure that both girls were on the same team, even though the ages weren't quite right. That was one condition of her parents. The other was that the field was within biking distance so that the two of them could bike alone to most of their commitments. We look back on that and now that we're parents we better understand their position. And I even agree with some of it, though these days we're far far more cautious about letting kids roam on their own. (I forget how old she was for this, probably gr 7 and up?)
Poor Susie. Do remember to take some breaks and "ahhhhhh, rest" time every now and then!

Date: 2007-04-05 11:30 am (UTC)This week I had choir on Monday. Tuesday my wife had to go to church in the evening to work on changing the banner (pulpit decoration) before good friday. Yesterday was free, but she had to go out for an hour+half for birthday shopping for #2son, then tonight I have an extra choir practise, which fortunately coincides with #1 son's boy's club at church.
busy nights.
We've been married 15 years and want to stay that way, but sometimes it feels like we don't get to spend much time toghether connecting and reinforcing each other and strengthening our relationship.
best wishes!
