Happy Friday...

*hugs* to [livejournal.com profile] sherylyn  because she is the bestest.  I went to the hairdressers on Saturday to have the head o' hair coloured, cut, conditioned and such. I was talking with the said hairdresser about the fact that my hair never feels the way it does leaving the solon when I do it.  I use a straightener on it, all the same products she does, and my hair ends up flyaway, dry feeling and just basically unmanagable.  The hairdresser said that it's the straightener that makes a difference and the ones that you buy in a drugstore do not get hot enough to work on the hair (or maybe it's just my hair it doesn't work on).  The straightener they use in the solon is a professional grade, and it can be purchased in the solon.

For $120.00.

I decided not to buy it then and there, because I had just forked over $160.00 to have the hair coloured (I take "extra colour" because of how much hair I have), conditioned, cut, and styled, plus my eyebrows waxed (yes, I pay for pain), plus I had to buy conditioner for home.  So, I decided to think about it before I purchased.

I also have to fork over money to have my engagement ring fixed.  To the tune of $300.00.

Anyway, [livejournal.com profile] sherylyn and I were Y!Ming on Saturday night, and I was telling her my saga. She told me she loved her hair straightener, that it gets super-hot, and that it was reasonably priced (around 30 bucks) at Sally's Beauty Supply.  So I finally found a convenient Sally's and stopped yesterday and bought the recommended straightener.

I could just kiss [livejournal.com profile] sherylyn .

Best 40 bucks I've spent on a hair appliance ever.

I played with it some last night, and then again this morning, and I've had people stopping and telling me how wonderful my hair looks.  They want to know if I went to the salon last night.

My hair looks and feels like it does when I leave the salon.  And this is coming from the gal who does not primp.  At all.  But I love the way my hair looks and feels after using this product.  'Tis wonderful.

So thank you, [livejournal.com profile] sherylyn  , for sharing this gem with me.  *hugshugshugshugs* and a little bit of Hugh just for good measure. *grin*

In other news, I'm calling the doc today to work on adjusting my hormones.  His day off was yesterday.  I'm hoping we get things set soon.  I can't stand the way I'm acting.  Esp. at home.  At least I realize what the problem is. That's part of the battle.  And at least I'm willing to do something about it.

And as always, please click the link in my LJ for breast cancer.  Help fund those mammograms.

LOLOL I'm so glad it worked out well for you! I figure anything that can make *my* hair go straight when I let it dry naturally (which means it's *really* curly then; I just use a bit of heat safe spray or something) oughta be able to straighten anything ;-) And also, I had a great hairstylist a few years ago who told me all about this type of straightening iron, and I figured the $30-40 version was definitely worth a shot. Ceramic plates and ions do wonders ;-) I'm so happy that it made you so happy!! :-)

**HUGS**

Sherry, what is the exact make and model number for the straightener you recommended for Susan?! I am desperate for something that'll tame my tresses. Heaven knows, I wish I had some Sleakeasy's Hair Potion, but alas... ;-)

Hey Caroline... it's a Jilbere de Paris Ceramic Tools Porcelain Curved Flat Iron 1"
By: Jilbere de Paris

Sally Item #: 345823

Sizes: 1", Also available in 1-1/2" (Item #345821)& 2-1/2" (Item #345822)

(that's pasted from the web site)

Here's the link: http://www.sallybeauty.com/shop/1650/345823

The other night, that direct link stuff didn't want to work for Susan in the Y!Mer, so here's to the page of straighteners:
http://www.sallybeauty.com/shop/dept/1650/4

Also, I told Susan... if you have a Sally's that's convenient to you, you can pay $5 for a discount card with them (it's good for a year) and it'll save you a chunk on everything you buy. On an appliance like that, it might save you like $3-4, so the card pays for itself in no time.

The main key is the ceramic plates and the ion aspect -- and having a thermostat thingy on it to adjust it according to your hair. Let me know if you get one/how you like it! :-)

And BTW -- I love your icon! :-D

Goodie! I used the store locator, and there's a Sally's located a mere 4.5 miles from where I live. Maybe I'll invest my birthday cash on the flat iron. That is, assuming I get birthday cash this year! lol At any rate, I'm very anxious to try it out.

Thanks for the testimonials, ladies. I thank you, and my problem hair thanks you!

P.S. Susan, I love your soapbox. I'm participating in the Race for the Cure on Oct. 22. *pins her pink ribbon on*

Hey you two!

I got the 1 1/2 inch straightener, because the store I went to didn't have the 1 inch one. The box has the model number as JBP2558 and the item number as 345822. It does have adjustable heat settings (although I have to set it clear up on high for my dorky hair), and heats to 446 degrees F. I don't use a heat spray on my hair, just because the hair dresser never has, and I am waiting for the day that I burn my hand, because I am that big of a klutz.

And good luck, Caroline, during the race for the cure! Yay you! Breast cancer is very near and dear to me, as I lost a friend to it 3 years ago. She was 40 and had been the soloist in my wedding. I've had one biopsy already, and I'm watching another spot on the other side for 2 years (with dx mammograms every 6 months). I'll be done with the every 6 months stuff after the first of next year! Yay!

Actually, I'm due for my 6 month mammogram this month. I'm going to the doctor on Monday for a hormone adjustment (I just had a hysterectomy in June), so I'll be getting the orders for that.

Okay...that was way off topic! *laughs* Sorry about that. I'm just very passionate about good breast health.

*hugs you both*

I have the one inch version, but I think the 1 1/2" would be good for most hair. They didn't have that one when I bought mine, naturally, so... I think just about any of them would work well. One thing I like about the smaller sizes vs. the "big as you can get it" size is that it works really well on doing bangs or any shorter lengths, etc. (I can "curl" my bangs with it as well as w/a curling iron, if I want to.) I always use a heat-spray type of stuff mostly b/c that little bit of moisture seems to help make my hair straighten better (it's curly, naturally), as much as anything.

And I'm with you, Susan, on the breast cancer awareness, etc. My best friend since we were in 1st grade is 4 days older than I am, and last year she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had two lumpectomies, chemo and radiation, and then at her checkup at the 1st of this year, they found some suspicious spots that turned out to be pre-cancerous. Her dr. said that basically, they just had some cells that hadn't been completely removed, etc., the year before, so she had a mastectomy this time. She was 42 when she was diagnosed, so it's not like it's something that only affects us when we get "old" either :-P And she had no family history or anything like that, either. So... it's just too important to ignore, is the way I look at it.

*HUGS* y'all! :-)

We've had breast cancer in the family, and we walk as a school team in honor of one of my co-workers who is a eight year survivor. (Yay, Carol!) I'm hoping for cooler weather by the 22nd, which is when the race is taking place. It's been just like summer these days (despite what the calendar tells us), and even though I'm more than willing to sweat my butt off for the cause, I'm hoping not to have to! ;-)

I'll keep you both informed (as if you're sitting on the edges of your seats or something!) about how it goes with the straightener once I purchase it. I don't have bangs, so I don't have to worry about short pieces at all, which means I can go whole hog and purchase the "big as you can get" model. Hot damn! ;-) lol I'm really anxious to try it out, though. I've dealt with the curse of the big, frizzy hair for as long as I can recall. Enough's enough already!
