Do you have:
(1) your own cell phone
(2) a television in your bedroom
(3) an MP3 player (in my palm pilot)
(4) a photo printer
( ) your own phone line (I'm the one that pays the bill, does that count?)
( ) TiVo or a generic digital video recorder

( ) a surround sound system in bedroom
(6) DVD player in bedroom (although it's not hooked up)

(8) your own in-house office (aka the junk room)
(9) a pool (rinky-dink above ground one)
( ) a guest house

(11) a queen-size bed or larger
( ) a stocked bar (does wine in the fridge count? LOL!)

( ) your own set of golf clubs
( ) a pool table (I do not count the kids torn up game table as a pool table, although it has cue sticks and balls)
( ) a tennis court
( ) local access to a lake, large pond, or the sea (the lake we have "access" to is not something to write home to the wife and kids about - it's really a druggy hangout)
( ) your own pair of skis
( ) enough camping gear for a weekend trip in an isolated area.
( ) a boat
( ) a jet ski
( ) a neighborhood committee membership
(17) a beach house or a vacation house/cabin (we own a time share week.  I guess that counts)

(30) been to Hawaii
(31) been to New York (I've been to NYC once - I had a friend dying of breast cancer in a pallative care hospital in the Bronx.  I flew in, went straight to the hospital, spent 2 days there, went straight back to the airport, and flew home.  No sight-seeing, no touring, no nothing.  I've also been to upstate New York visiting a bil and family that lived there).

It's a damn pain in the ass to maintain. But in a year or so, the boys will be able to help out more than they do now (can you say free slave labor?) *evil grin*

The joy of having all those young men around -- to wield the mighty lawn mower! : )

Hell, the last time I used a power mower I destroyed the back yard (I was a teenager at the time) so the back yard (such as it is) is the hubby's baby.

[Hermione tone] Language, Susie! [end Hermione tone]

How old is your oldest? We have a push reel mower -- which is too small for a yard that size, but it is safe around kids. My oldest just turned nine, and he's been pushing it around (for fun!!) for the past two summers. No way you'll cut off a toe with a push reel.

But then, I grew up on an acre and we all sang praises when dad finally bought us a riding lawn mower. Then it was me and my walkman driving in circles for the next 5 years. Fall was nice, as I'd drive under an apple tree and pick one to munch on.

I have always been one to teach kids to use tools at an age that is probably younger than most. But I can only count to nine and a half on my fingers because of a push reel mower. I don't know how it happened but at about 18 months I lost my right index finger at the second nuckle in a push reel mower.

Errr, a manually-powered push reel did that? (ie: the ones that take power from the wheels) Wow. Mine gets stuck on a stick the size of a pencil. which is why I think toes are pretty safe.

But at 18 months? What were you doing with a mower at 18 months? I think my oldest was at least 6 before he had enough oomf to make the thing go.

Yes a manually-powered push reel did that. My twin brother and I were playing in the front yard while dad was mowing the lawn. (not much danger of getting hit by a flying object from a push reel) My brother went out in the street so dad went to get him. Somehow I might have fallen rotating the reel or something while I was checking out the mower. I don't think anyone really saw what happened. But an 18 month old finger through the nuckle brobably doesn't have the resistance of a stick the size of a pencil.

I remember using the push reel over at granpas house and I am almost certain I didn't have enough oomf to push it at 6. Of course it was probably a 1950's model that weighed 3 or 4 times as much as todays models.

My beloved wants me to put a lock on our master bath to keep the munchkins out. I want to teach them to knock. It's also a sliding door, which is difficult to so equip.

68 Ford Mustang
Ummmm a 68 Ford Mustang!!! In one piece? Does it run? Photos?
I'm not even a gear head, but I can still appreciate a fine piece of history like that.

I knew Rich Mullins
I met Steve Taylor's drummer once when he came through Grand Rapids on tour. Then again in Detroit. Can't recall why I didn't get to shake Steve's hand. I worked a spotlight at a concert once. Can't remember the arist - some random mid 80's ccm duo. That was an experience.

My Father-in-law's claim to fame was that he once served a hamburger to Colonel Sanders. Yes, him.

oh well, ta
